Akon's Launching A New Video-Streaming App

Akon's Launching A New Video-Streaming App:

R&B singer Akon is expanding his reach in the world of technology with a new video-streaming app.

Akon has joined forces with bosses at electronics giant Samsung to launch the subscription-based program Cinemoi Channel, which will provide inspiring content 24 hours a day.  The app, designed for smart TVs & cell phones, will allow subscribers to watch movies both old and new, as well as TV series and talk shows.

It's the latest tech venture for Akon - he recently announced his own cryptocurrency, called Akoin, in his family's native Senegal, aimed at helping to boost the African economy.  He has also been busy building up the solar power market in Africa as part of his Lighting Africa project, through which he hopes to provide affordable electricity to those who have none.

HAPPY 44th BIRTHDAY, to… STYLES P!

HAPPY 44th BIRTHDAY, to… STYLES P!

David Styles - born 11/28/1974 in Corona-Queens, NY – is an American rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur, health food shop owner, & book author.

Born in a Jamaican & South African mixed home, Styles had modest beginnings.  After his parents divorced, he & his younger brother Gary moved to Yonkers with their mother.  While in high school, he & 2 friends (Jadakiss & Sheek) formed a rap group first called ‘The Bomb Squad’ and then later named ‘The Warlox’.  They began working local talent shows in 1993, and made their 1st mainstream appearance on Main Source’s “Set It Off” in 1994.  They showed face at nearly every Yonkers hip-hop event, created demos, and started developing a fan base by appearing on many underground mixtapes. One of their admirers was fellow Yonkers-alum Mary J Blige, passed their demo on to Bad Boy CEO Sean ‘Puff Daddy’ Combs, who eventually signed them to a multi-album deal.  Through the advice of Combs – they shortened their group name to The Lox, started appearing on many DJ Clue tapes, Jadakiss & Styles started notably co-writing for other rappers, and the group gained a string of collaboration exposure featuring on hits from Puff, Notorious BIG, DMX, Mase, NORE, Mariah Carey, J-Lo, etc.  By January 1998, they released a debut album ‘Money, Power, & Respect’ that eventually sold Platinum.  Styles tried his hand at solo work, getting 2 hits with “My Life” (w/ Pharoahe Monch) & “Good Times” in 2002.  He released his own debut solo album ‘A Gangster and a Gentleman’ through Ruff Ryders/Interscope in July 2002, which sold Gold in about 3 months.

Styles’ career momentum had a couple hiccups.  While their debut was commercially successful, he & his group had a well-publicized conflict with Puff & Bad Boy over contract terms, finances, & creative differences; that took “Let the LOX Go”-street campaign & nearly 6 months of legally maneuvering to get out of their deal and sign with Ruff Ryders.  This was followed by - his brother Gary dying in a car accident in May 2001; Styles himself having to serve an 8-month prison stint for his involvement in a NY-club stabbing that same year; and then his stepdaughter Tai committing suicide at 21 in 2015.  Diversified his skills, he continued on though.  While still maintaining a steady tour schedule - Styles signed a multi-project book deal with Random House publishing in 2011, releasing his first novel that same year entitled ‘Invincible’.  Styles brokered a small sponsorship deal from High Times, and twice he helped establish indie labels with national distribution for his group (D-Block Records) & for himself (Phantom Records).  Already a vegan and avid veggie-juicer since 2003, he linked with 2 business partners, and he & Jadakiss became owners of a health juice bar chain called Juices for Life – which now has 2 locations in NYC & the Bronx.

Musically, Styles P has created: (10) solo albums, (4) group albums, (3) group mixtapes, & (8) collaborative/duo compilations, and (1) EP – which along with his features, have all collectively helped earn him: (1) 3x Platinum plaque, (3) 1x Platinum plaques, & (4) Gold plaques …

New Official Video from DIPSET for new single "Sauce Boyz":

New Official Video from DIPSET for new single "Sauce Boyz":

Juelz was granted a relocation bid in his house arrest agreement, allowing the group to reunite for the video shoot to their comeback vid "Sauce Boyz." In this new single, all 4 core members are in the fold, including Juelz & Freaky Zeaky, getting a chance to rap over a very gritty-NY Heatmakerz beat, going down memory lane. The visuals place the Dipset boyz, performing rooftop, paying homage to known Harlem locations, dressed in business attire eatting luxury fruits at an after-hour laundry-mat, and pouring out their formerly-licensed liqueur they once promoted, all in the name new beginnings.  Their new album 'Diplomatic Ties' marks their 1st group release in 14 years, and is slated to debut during Thanksgiving 2018.

SNL roasts Kanye West in new White House rant sketch:

While people are scratching their heads on Kanye West's actions as of late, Saturday Night Live offer a more hilarious approach to the madness. SNL go completely in to spoof Kanye's recent meeting with President Trump at the White House.  The C-SPAN parody sketch features cast members Chris Redd as Kanye, Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, & Keenan Thompson as Jim Brown.

Kanye West is currently in Uganda putting in the finishing touches on his upcoming 9th studio album 'Yandhi' due in November 2018 - and has no comment towards the SNL jab.  SNL cast member Peter Davidson has since called 'Ye a jackass for the way he acted, while Swizz Beatz has a new song that sums up his feelings on the situation.

New Official Video from EMINEM for new single "Lucky You" (ft. Joyner Lucas):

New Official Video from EMINEM for new single "Lucky You" (ft. Joyner Lucas):

While being in the headlines lately for numerous beefs spawning out of his newest album 'Kamikaze', rap vet Eminem has still found time to promote the album with visuals for his newest single "Lucky You", teaming up with Massachusetts-emcee Joyner Lucas.  The video displays both rappers in survivalist mode waking up on a cargo boat, searching through a run-down post-industrial town, being stalked by an ever-growing horde of hoodie'd creatures with glowing red eyes. Midway through there's a small comedic interlude where both artists pause to realize that these copycats are hilariously mimicking all their movements.  Check it out!

New Official Video form MACHINE GUN KELLY for a new diss track "Rap Devil"

New Official Video form MACHINE GUN KELLY for a new diss track "Rap Devil":

Less than a week after Eminem's surprise album 'Kamikaze' contained a line that took a jab at MGK, he's already fired back with a diss track & video for "Rap Devil".  A play off Eminem's 2013 track "Rap God," MGK's "Rap Devil" dumps on everything from Em's "weird" beard to being "sober and bored" and his last "4 lack-luster albums".  Machine Gun Kelly has long been complimentary of Eminem as one of the figures in hip-hop who inspired him to pick up a pen. Back in 2012, Kelly ruffled Em's feathers when he tweeted that his daughter, Hailie, was “hot as f---.” He also claims that Eminem has banned him from any more appearances on his Shade 45 channel on SiriusXM.

MGK himself defends "Rap Devil" on Twitter, writing he's standing up for his "generation" amid Eminem's attack = "I'm standing up for not just myself, but my generation," Kelly wrote. "I'm doing the same shit you did back in your day. life is still real on my side, and i had to take time from the grind to defend myself from someone i called an idol. love, Rap Devil."

Maybe you LOVE IT, maybe you HATE IT... maybe you're like me and after you get over the shock that MGK actually replied back to Em, it's really feel "just decent, but you gotta come harder than that".

Fortunately, I think MGK took Em's bait... and if you like the rap game & disses, things are about to get real interesting with some back-and-front.  May the best pen win!  Check out the video for yourself, and tell me your opinion...

Sony Admits In Court To Releasing Fake Michael Jackson Music:

SONY ADMITS TO RELEASING FAKE MICHAEL JACKSON MUSIC:

In 2010, several songs were released that were said to be recorded by the late Michael Jackson. 4 years later, claims were brought up questioning the music’s validity, leading many to believe the music was fraudulent. Now, nearly 3 years after the scandal, Sony Music Entertainment yesterday, has admitted in court to releasing and selling fake tunes by the late legend.

The fake songs appeared on the 2010 posthumous album 'Michael'. The songs in question include: “Monster,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Breaking News.” In court documents obtained by Karen Civil, Vera Servoa – the fan who kickstarted the investigation into the fake MJ songs – filed a civil suit, accusing Jackson’s longtime friends Eddie Cascio, James Victor Porte, and his production company, Angelikson Productions LLC of creating and selling music through Sony and the Jackson estate.  Cascio and Porte initially claimed that the songs were recorded by Michael Jackson in Cascio’s basement in 2007. Serova and the Jackson family, contested those claims however.  While the singles sounded similar to MJ’s sound, they said Michael never recorded them. Serova now testified in the Los Angeles Superior Court that they were actually recorded by an impersonator named JASON MALACHI.

Consequently, Sony Music Entertainment conceded in court, that it had released fake singles. It’s unclear if fans or Jackson’s estate will be awarded for the criminal behavior or whether there will be an monetary punishment for Sony.

Heavy D's Career Mix (1986-2011)

HEAVY D, was a rapper, reggae singer, producer, record exec, actor, & founding member of Heavy D & the Boyz.  Born Dwight Errington Myers on 5/24/1967 in Mandeville, Jamaica, and in the early 1970s his family moved to Mount Vernon, NY.  He discovered hip-hop during its inception & started making his demo in junior high school.  He formed a crew with high school friends: DJ Eddie F, Trouble T-Roy, & G-Wiz.  Eventually their demo landed in the hands of exec Andre Harrell, who currently was leaving his job at Def Jam to found his own label, Uptown Records.  Heavy D & the Boyz became his 1st signing in 1986.  By 1987, they released their debut album ‘Living Large’ which was a surprise success debuting at #10 on Billboard’s Rap/R&B charts.  In 1989, their sophomore album ‘Big Tyme’ paired them with better production led by Queens-legend Marley Marl, Bronx-legend Pete Rock, and new-jack swing creator Teddy Riley.  This became their mainstream breakthrough, debuting as a #1 Rap album & #19 on Billboard’s Pop charts; and sold Platinum.  Heavy D’s buzz increased as he penned & performed the ‘In Living Color’ TV theme song, and became one of the 1st rappers ever to collaborate with both Michael & Janet Jackson.  In 1995, Heavy D discovered & executive produced the debut album from R&B group Soul 4 Real.  This same year he performed in the boardway play ‘Riff-Raff’.

After 5 group albums, Heavy D went solo in 1996 and secured a joint deal with Uptown & Universal Records.  By April 1997, he released his debut album ‘Waterbed Hev’, which peaked at #9 on the Billboard charts, eventually reaching Gold-selling status.  Shortly after, Uptown was purchased/merged with Universal, and Heav was named senior vice president.  Later he had a successful acting career too, earning roles in tv/films like – ‘New Jersey Drive’, ‘BAPS’, ‘Life’, ‘The Cider House Rules’, ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’, ‘Bones’, ‘Step Up’, ‘Law & Order’, & ‘Tower Heist’.  A little-known accomplished producer as well, Heavy D has produced music for the likes of: Jay-Z, Nas, Beanie Sigel, Fabolous, Total, Carl Thomas, McGruff, Monifah, Lil’ Mo, Changing Faces, & Soul 4 Real.  Sadly, Heavy D collapsed outside his home in Beverly Hills, CA and died on 11/8/11, at the age of 44, due to a blood clot-triggered pulmonary embolism.

The following’s my HEAVY D career mix, whose recording career lasted from 1986-2011.  This playlist contains 78 tracks, clocking in at over 4 hrs & 30 mins – consisting of all his major hits, fan-favorites, reggae singles, soundtrack features, surprise collabos, & even the last interview days before his death.
